Position: Laboratory Technician

Position Summary
The Open Flexure Microscope project aims at evaluating the diagnostic accuracy of the novel digital microscope, the open flexure microscope against the manual light microscope for malaria diagnosis. The Lab Technician will be required to assist expert microscopists at Bagamoyo research laboratory in blood smear preparation for manual microscopy and digital microscope. The Intern will also be responsible in maintaining the digital microscope, digitizing and storing smear images in the long term storage server.
Duties and Responsibilities
- To support expert microscopists in preparation and reading of malaria blood slides
- To assist in developing Standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the digital microscope
- Blood slide imaging by digital microscope and data storage
- Assist in blood slides archiving and blood smear images storage
- Coordinate blood slides reading results from the digital and manual microscopes To maintain digital microscopes in good condition
Qualification and Experience
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences
Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge in malaria microscopy by optical microscope
- Basic computer knowledge
- Knowledge of the digital microscope building will be an added advantage.
